Liz Beard's studies took her all over the US as she honed her skills as an artist. After finishing her training at Grand Central Academy in New York under Jacob Collins, she became Grand Central's artist in residence, joining the Eleventh Street Arts group. Anyone who finds themselves in the neighborhood should stop in--there is amazing work coming out of this group of talented artists working on Long Island.
Liz was twice a Hudson River Fellow and is the director of the C.S. Lewis Project--an ambitious, ongoing project that commissions top artists to create works based on and inspired by Lewis's work and ideology. The first round of these pieces were shown last fall at New York's historic Salmagundi Club.
Liz's work is dynamic, measured and fresh. There is always more than meets the eye at first glance in her still life paintings, and her figurative works always employ a narrative element that invites contemplation. Of her work Liz writes:
I daily try to enjoy my life by following what is a calling for me, to paint. I am often moved by the world around me, and hope to discover what is most beautiful, human, and honest. It is in the natural world—my ultimate example of design—where I find inspiration in depth of space, and the sensations of temperature and texture. The narratives of my paintings are told by simple moments of observed beauty, interpretations of human experience, and metaphor. My art is a constant unfolding of how I understand and discern the world as I experience it.

New Work the gallery will be changing exhibits and will open our new show, Music and Flowers in mid July; more to come later on that.
